Artist Biography
Alejandro Mendiola is a Southern California–based visual artist working primarily in painting. His work combines contemporary imagery with influences from classical painting, particularly the dramatic lighting, contrast, and emotional intensity associated with Baroque art.
Working across acrylic, oil, printmaking, and mixed media, Mendiola has developed a visual language that incorporates skeletal figures, sacred imagery, flowers, familiar objects, and symbols drawn from personal experience.
Raised in Southern California, Mendiola’s experiences as an artist, father, and student have shaped a practice centered on reflection, perseverance, faith, and personal growth.
Mendiola has exhibited his work throughout Southern California in student, community, gallery, and independent exhibitions. His practice extends beyond original paintings into limited-edition fine art prints, screen printing, artist editions, and other objects that carry the imagery of his paintings beyond the canvas.
He is currently pursuing his education in Studio Arts at Mt. San Antonio College while continuing to develop and exhibit his body of work in Southern California.
